Here's an interesting thought.  Is there any way that the Mandaeans
rather than the Arabs could have become the dominant faith in the
Mideast?  Probably impossible, but the Arab conquest was pretty unlikely
in itself....

They could even have become the dominant faith in the West, with the
right PoD.

There was a thread that touched on this, do a Google Groups search on
the terms 'flagellation' and 'OTL'.
