They've both also been imperialists, though, with a tinge of universalism, and have had some nasty threads of racism crop up now and again. Do you mean that France should become the industrial leader of the world and home to tens of millions of immigrants while the United States should be troubled by irredenta, neighbouring states that are both anti-American and growing more rapidly than the US, and a large if underexploited colonial empire? > President Chester A.
