With a POD after 1900, make France by 2001 either the ruler of an empire or the clear and undisputed leader of some political grouping that collectively is strong enough to offer a challenge to the US claim to be the only Superpower. The French empire/block/alliance need not be the only superpower competition to the US, if your TL works out that way. "EC is a lot more effective" will not be accepted unless some real detail is put into it. French attack Germany and get through their defences, 3 years later Germany capitulates. Being the clear victors, the French take larger chunks out of Germany. Imperial forces in Germany defeat Bolsheviks, Russo-French alliance stays intact. When a charismatic and warlike extremist leader rises in Germany in the 1940's, the French are more confidant. When the Germans try and take back what they lost after WWI, they get their behinds kicked by the French and Russians again. Britain decolonises, but France doesn't. France defeats Japan in latter half of 1940's over Indochina, Japan becomes puppet states and has its economic miracle. France establishes political control over Western Europe, Africa and East Asia, while Russia is forced to put down a revolution every half a decade, China breaks up into rival states, and Britain loses everything, even Ireland. By 2001, USA is isolationist and France has the greatest world influence. David K.
